Scott Wood (US Presswire)Not long after North Carolina State lost to rival North Carolina for the 11th straight time on Thursday night, reporters asked junior forward Scott Wood how frustrating it was to have never beaten the Tar Heels.
Wood's response was brilliant in its simplicity.
"Has your wife ever cheated on you?" Wood deadpanned in response.
Then after a few seconds of the most awkward silence imaginable, he responded, "that's probably how frustrating it is."
It's understandable that Wood wasn't in the best mood considering how poorly NC State played in a game it had pointed toward to validate its 4-1 start in ACC play. The Wolfpack shot 36.8 percent from the field, committed 17 turnovers and only managed to get uncontested looks against the Tar Heel defense when they were 80 feet from the basket.
The loss sets up a crucial game for NC State against upper echelon ACC opponent Virginia on Saturday in Raleigh. The Wolfpack (15-6, 4-2) are still the ACC's best chance to get a fifth team into the NCAA tournament, but they're running out of opportunities to boost a resume that looks pretty thin right now besides a November win over Texas.
