Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Tom Cleverley will not be fit to feature for Englandin Wednesday's friendly clash with the Netherlands at Wembley, Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed.

Cleverley will be out for two weeks having sustained a foot injury during United's 2-1 Europa League defeat to Ajax on Thursday, while Rooney has been suffering with a throat infection.

The pair missed out on United's 2-1 victory over Norwich on Sunday through injury and, after the match, Ferguson confirmed that neither would be able to recover in time to face the Dutch.

The news will come as a significant blow to Stuart Pearce, who included both men in his first selection as caretaker England boss as part of an experimental-looking Three Lions squad.

There is no indication as yet as to whether replacements will be called up.
